I can help analyze your writing based on my human experience as a writer and editor, and more (About Randy Koons). I bring over a half century of creative, business, relationships, and other experience to the table. My eclectic background provides a knowledgeable sounding board to bounce ideas from and discuss where you want to go.
AI may be faster, more knowledgeable, but it's stuck in the machine and knows only what AI can experience from the machine. I've been around the block several times and I can offer that unique human perspective.

I'll help you develop critiquing skills to improve your editing, just as we do in my writers' groups, only here we work one-on-one. The more your editing improves the better your writing will get. Keep in mind I'm not here to ultimately edit your work, but to help you develop and improve your critiquing and editing skills. That's the big payoff.

​I’ve worked as a professional writer and editor for many years, across fiction, memoir, and creative nonfiction. My background includes running read-and-critique groups for serious writers (testimonials), peer-reviewed publication, short stories, essays, and senior proposal management and writing.
I employ a craft-focused, practical approach grounded in real communication that's neither trendy nor formulaic. My goal is to help you improve your writing through honest critiquing. I pay particular attention to clarity, structure, and intention. I’ll help you see your writing clearly, understand what it’s doing, and help you make deliberate choices to engage your readers.

One-on-one Zoom session options
​I offer two editing options, which may be used separately or together, depending on your requirements. We can either work at the macro level, discussing concepts and developmental issues with your work, or we can get into the weeds and the details of interactive line editing at the micro level.​​​​​
One-on-one Macro-Zoom sessions
​Do you have a writing project? Would you like help to advance you closer to your goal? If you’ve been trying to get feedback online using asynchronous messaging or sending files back and forth, waiting to find out what to do, maybe you want to try something different.
My one-on-one macro-Zoom sessions are designed for brainstorming and concept validation. Does my plot work? Is my character true? Do my concepts resonate? These are the questions we ask and answer in my writers’ groups that help our writers to advance their work and improve their craft. Here you get one-on-one focused attention on your work.
Sure, you can ask AI the same sorts of questions, but you’ll get back a machine answer. If you want a human-centric answer that’s what I do. But let’s be clear. I believe AI is an incredible tool and anyone who wants to use it in their creative process, that's totally acceptable.
What I also believe is that the AI product is just the starting point. A first draft. To maximize the benefit of AI assisted writing you need to critique it, edit it, and make it your own voice. I’m happy to discuss your work produced in collaboration with AI. Bring it on and let’s see how you can improve the end result.

One-on-one Micro-Zoom sessions
My Micro-Zoom sessions are truly interactive editing experiences. Unlike my Macro sessions, this is focused time when we apply polish directly to your writing. This is like my Writers’ Roundtable Critique Programs that focus on developing advanced critiquing and editing skills; only this is a one-on-one personalized session.
While we’ll do interactive developmental and line editing the goal is not that I edit your work but rather help improve your critiquing and editing skills. It’s hard to edit your own work, but once you learn the art of critique and how to recognize when you’re withholding secret knowledge from your reader, your editing skills will improve and with it your writing.
During our Micro-Zoom session, you’ll share your word processing window, allowing me to see your writing. You pick the passages and material you’re looking to improve and I’ll discuss what works for the reader and what needs to be changed, and perhaps most importantly—why. This will help you see your own writing more objectively and improve your editing skills.
You can bring any writing you’re working on, such as fiction, creative nonfiction, memoir, essays, notes, newsletters, business, and technical writing. The goal is to improve clarity by making your intent readily accessible to the reader. Feel free to bring AI assisted writing and drafts, because the key to successful AI collaboration is turning an AI draft into your voice and infuse humanity into machine generated writing.
